WP detecting duplicates referential

Patient misidentification costs the average hospital $1.2 million in denied claims and lost revenue annually, and the detriment to patient care quality is even greater.

To improve the outlook, healthcare executives are exploring different approaches. Yet, ARGO research reveals that many fall short of identifying the full scope of the duplicate record problem. For instance, findings suggest that 83% of duplicates are missed with basic hospital information system matching, while intermediate rules-based solutions miss approximately 50%.

ARGO recently used a national referential database to analyze a large regional health system’s Master Patient Index (MPI). The project looked at previous matching results from the referential database and evaluated what was missed and how matching accuracy could be improved.

This paper will guide you through the findings of our study, including

  • Understanding the differences between matching systems;
  • Comparing results from referential database analysis; and
  • Improving patient matching.
